As the weather gets warmer and the days get longer, many people begin to think about investing in some garden furniture. Far from a frivolous purchase, garden furniture is a long-term investment, and will take pride of place on your lawn or patio for years - if not decades - to come. Whether you use your outdoor space for entertaining, sunbathing or simply for decoration, your garden furniture plays a crucial part - so why settle for anything less than perfection?

When shopping for garden furniture, we’ve got the ultimate guide on what to look for. From the technical jargon to key design features, here are the 7 things to keep an eye on when ordering garden furniture…

Fire and Flame Retardant

Ensuring your outdoor furniture is compliant with the Furniture Fire Safety Regulations is crucial - especially if you’re planning on adding a barbecue, fire-pit or chiminea nearby. To meet the UK Fire Regulations, furniture must have a specific filling, be cigarette and match resistant, and have a permanent label attached confirming these features.

All of Moda’s garden furniture is fire and flame retardant, meaning you’ve got peace of mind when pairing your set with one of our fire-pit tables - take a look at our collection here.

Deep Cushions

Garden furniture is designed with relaxation in mind, so for optimum comfort, look for deep-filled cushions that will keep you supported all summer long. The plumper the cushion, the more resilient, too: flimsier designs can flatten and sag with use.

Comfort is key at Moda, and all furniture is designed with this in mind. Moda’s garden furniture features 15cm deep cushions, all of which fit the rattan bases perfectly. As an added bonus, all cushions have removable, washable covers, and all fabric is stain resistant - perfect for garden parties and barbecues!

CE Certificate

It may seem like common sense, but when shopping for garden furniture, make sure your new set is CE certified. CE marking means that the furniture has been checked by the manufacturer to ensure it meets the EU health, safety and environmental requirement, and all of Moda’s garden furniture has this seal of approval.

Tempered Glass

If you’re purchasing a table for your garden, a glass top is key - not only does it look aesthetically pleasing, a layer of glass is wipe-clean and can help to protect the fabric beneath from the elements.

However, make sure any glass used in your garden is tempered: toughened safety glass that has been chemically treated to increase its strength. Compared to its non-treated counterparts, tempered glass is also more resilient: hailed as scratch- and impact-resistant, it’s designed to withstand more usage than regular table-tops.

Moda’s dining sets are all made with thick 8mm tempered glass, and come in numerous different styles, weaves and silhouettes. Shop the collection here!

Superior Weave

When choosing rattan garden furniture, the weave is one of the most important elements. Not only should the weave look great, it should be functional, too - both comfortable and practical!

When choosing your rattan furniture, look for commercial grade, double-woven weave styles - these are extra strong and will last for years on end. Find out whether the weave is stretch tested - so you know it won’t sag over time - and it’s imperative your weave is UV and weather resistant to avoid fading or harbouring mould.

Moda’s rattan furniture ticks all of these boxes to maximise comfort and durability. The arms of the chairs are extra-wide, and the backrests extra sturdy - take a look at the newest rattan sofa sets here.

Fully Assembled

Is there anything worse than your new furniture arriving - and being expected to hammer it together yourself? Choose garden furniture that arrives at your door fully assembled: not only does this alleviate the hassle of figuring out your flatpack, it makes your furniture last longer, too. Being designed in one piece means that the steel frames are less likely to rust, and won’t fall apart or loosen over time; no more reaching for the screwdriver to tighten the seats!

Guarantee

Garden furniture should be able to withstand the elements, but it’s always worthwhile to choose products with a decent guarantee. Whilst some stores will offer as low as one years’ guarantee, Moda are proud to offer a seven year guarantee - proving just how confident they are in the quality of the product.
